Ebola: Rivers Quarantines Three Suspects

Category: Nigerian National News

Rivers State Government has said three persons out of the 50 people classified as high risk contact and currently placed under observation through its Contact Tracing Committee have been identified and quarantined as in-house patients at the Ebola Isolation Unit, Eduoha, in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

The three were said to have manifested symptoms associated with the ebola virus disease (EVD).

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker, said at a media briefing on the disease in Port Harcourt Sunday that three persons, a doctor and pharmacist who work at Sam Steel Clinic as well as a female patient that was treated at Sam Steel Clinic have been taken to the quarantine centre at Eduoha for closer examination and observation by a team of medical experts.

He disclosed that while 50 out of about 200 people under surveillance were categorised as high risk because of their primary contact with the late Dr. Iyke Samuel Enemuo.

Parker appealed to about 60 people who had secondary contact with the late Enemuo and who “are yet to be located to come out and report themselves to the Rivers State government’s medical team as quickly as possible”.

He expressed regret that some people were reluctant to present themselves to the medical team because of the stigma associated with the ebola disease.
