Three people have been shot dead and eight injured in an attack by gunmen from Kogi State on Aguleri fishermen and farmers of Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Visiting the victims at a private hospital in Onitsha where they were receiving treatment, the Anambra State Governor, Mr Willie Obiano, appealed to the people of Aguleri to remain calm as the Anambra State and Kogi State governments have initiated measures to bring enduring solution to the incessant attacks of Anambra border communities by Kogi people.

The victims, who were lying in varying critical condition and could barely speak, told the Governor that unknown gunmen invaded the community from Kogi State on Monday afternoon in an aggressive attack on fishermen and farmers who were at work shooting sporadically.

Three people were gunned down while eight of them sustained gunshot wounds.

Addressing a crowd that gathered at the hospital, the Governor enjoined everybody to remain calm as the Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, had apologized to the state over the unfortunate incident and warned the youths of the state to desist from such unwarranted and unprovoked aggression.

Governor Willie Obiano also directed that the victims be transferred to St. Charles Borromeo Hospital for adequate treatment with the Government bearing every cost.

He stressed that the attack had nothing to do with the oil production in the area.
