Jonathan cancel condolence trip to Kano as Sanusi emerges as emir; rival to throne plans legal option

President Goodluck Jonathan has halted his planned trip to Kano state following the emergence of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir.

Mr. Jonathan was billed to pay a condolence visit to the state over the passing of late Monarch, Ado Bayero.

Although, the riot that broke out after official announcement by the state government is being seen as the reason for the president’s aborted trip, many believe Sanusi’s victory and the need for strategic planning may have necessitated the decision.

Even though the former CBN chief got his letter of appointment and staff of office from Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at Government House yesterday, he is yet to enter the palace .

Sanusi reportedly spent the weekend at the Government House to avoid possible arrest by operatives of Department of State Security.

It has been reported that one of the contestants for the stool may go to court to challenge Sanusi’s
emergence.

DailyPost gathered that dissatisfied by the kingmakers’ choice, some powerful forces want status quo maintained while the litigation is slugged out in court.

Meanwhile, security agents are now keeping watch on all roads leading to the already cordoned palace which still accommodates a number of the late Emir’s relatives.

Police say they are acting on intelligence report including the invasion of the Emir’s personal room by hoodlums who stole some items. In spite of this, Sanusi’s supporters have waved off the reason, insisting there was a grand plan against his installation.
