Nyanya bus hijack; a case of armed robbery – NSCDC reveals

More details have emerged concerning the hijacking of a school bus in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to online newspaper Premium Times, the hijack attempt on Tuesday morning was actually a case of armed robbery.

It was gathered that an official of The Vine International Academy, the school in the Nyanya area of Abuja where the hijacking took place, confirmed that it was just an empty school bus that was taken at gunpoint but no student was in the bus when it was seized.

The robbery incident was confirmed by the deputy commandant general (operations) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Evans Ewurum.

According to reports, there was panic in Nyanya, Kuduru, and other communities on the outskirts of Abuja as parents rushed to schools to pick their wards.

Many government schools in the areas were later shut, from parents who waited at the gates, to avoid a stampede.
