At least 80 out of 276 kidnapped GGSS female students were not seen in the video released by Boko Haram. Parents are getting depressed as the whereabouts of their children remain unknown.

Four girls escaped on the day of the abduction and 53 more ran away later. 137 girls were counted in the video released by the Islamist sect on Monday. The parents, however, have identified only 77 teenagers.

An official in Chibok told Daily Trust that some parents whose wards were abducted and not seen in the video were having relentless time.

“Many mothers are reluctant to eat because they don’t know the fate of their daughters,” the official said.

“We strongly believe that the remaining 83 girls who were not seen in the video are the ones that did not convert to Islam,” the leader of the Chibok Elders Forum in Abuja, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, said yesterday.

Bitrus pointed out that girls’ conversion to Islam is not an issue to their parents as most families in Chibok have christians and muslims.

Recall that President Goodluck Jonathan earlier cancelled a scheduled visit to Chibok today due to alleged security reports. 

This would have been his first visit to the affected town since the girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 15.
