Boko Haram May Attack Ogun – Army Chief
The General Officer Commanding, 81st division of the Nigerian Army, Lagos,
Major-General Tamunomieibi Dibi, warned that Boko Haram insurgency and attacks
in Ogun State were possible, urging the Army officers, the State Government
and the people not to rule it out.
The newly-deployed General Officer issued a warning during his working visit
to the 35th Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, on April 3, 2014, Thursday.
However, Maj. Gen. Dibi assured that the Nigerian Army has what it takes to
crush the Boko Haram insurgency and its attacks.
He called on the personnel to be extremely attentive and report any
security-threatening information to the appropriate quarters for quick and
necessary actions. As long as presence of Boko Haram insurgents could not be
ruled out in any state, cities, villages and communities in any part of
Nigeria, the GOC pointed out that security watch and consciousness should be
seen as everybody’s business.
While confirming the welfare and security challenges facing Nigerian Army and
its officers, Maj. Gen. Dibi assured the military men that government would
look into the challenges and find necessary solutions to the challenges.
It would be added that a group of retired top military officers has
recently proposed to act as a force multiplier for the Nigerian Army,
expressed readiness to take over some logistics or administration functions,
so that the military would be allowed to concentrate on its core functions of
fire and man oeuvre.
