Senate confirms Emefiele's apointment as new CBN Governor

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Mr Godwin Emefiele, a banker, as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr Emefiele was nominated for the job following the suspension of the former Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido, whose suspension has been controversially linked to financial recklessness.

The upper legislative chamber also cleared Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa as the substantive President of Appeal Court.

The two were cleared after hours of questioning by the Senate.

The new CBN governor, Mr. Godwin I. Emefiele from Agbor, Delta State, served as Chief Executive officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc.

Mr. Emefiele had served as Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. since 2001. He served as Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning of Zenith Bank Plc. and had been Management team since inception.
