Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike Resigns

The Supervising minister for education, Nyesom Wike has submitted his letter of resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan.

The minister’s resignation is to enable him pursue his ambition of becoming the next governor of Rivers State after the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.

The resignation which is expected to take effect from April 1, 2014 has gotten the approval of the president.
But another source within the Villa, confirmed that Wike’s resignation will be announced next week Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Mr Wike has been having differences with Governor Amaechi, since his nomination as a minister, which Amaechi claimed that the President did not go through him, the state governor as he had a preferred candidate for the post. 

Amaechi and Wike were a sort of, very close friends, as Wike was described in the Rivers state political field, as the last man standing for Amaechi when Obasanjo and PDP nullified Amaechi's nomination as their governorship candidate. 

Wike who later became Amaechi's chief of staff, sold some his personal land in choice areas in Port Harcourt to offset most the legal cost of Amaechi's attempt to reclaim his 'mandate', through the judicial process.
